WATNALL WI TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT TO MEMBERS 2015/16
Members agreed a bursary to Denman College be awarded to mark the Centenary of the National Federation of WIs. This was won by one of our longest serving members, Ann Briggs, who went to Denman this year.
The Christmas Coffee Morning was successful and this was followed by a Burns Night Supper and Beetle Drive. The proceeds were used towards the purchase of a sound system for use in the Hall by members and hirers.
The speakers for 2016 provided an interesting and varied programme ranging from looking after the health of your eyes, to how one man coped with waking up one morning at the age of 55 totally blind.
We were entertained by Ghost Stories from Wollaton Hall, an evening of poetry and prose, and the history of Ann Whyte who went from making her own clothes from scraps of material to becoming the new owner of Beauvale Priory. One of our members demonstrated making a necklace from string and we were also given an insight into the running of a Cheese Shop. One of the highlights of the year was the visit to Doddington Hall in Lincolnshire.
The Lunch club continues to meet once a month to sample a variety of venues locally. A celebration of St George’s Day and World Book Night was combined and members were able to choose from three very different books.
Some members participated in the many and varied events and competitions organised by the Nottinghamshire County Federation.
The final event of our year was organising, and catering for, the Beauvale Group of WIs Annual Group Meeting.
