What a lovely time we had at Melbourne Hall. We had time to wander, and pause, and sit, around the very green gardens. It would be an oasis of peace if it wasn't on the flight path from East Midlands airport just down the road.
An afternoon tea of scones and jam was just the ticket before it was time for our tour of the Hall. Two knowledgeable guides led us around the ground floor of a still lived in house. There were photographs of the family everywhere, counterpointed by portraits of the Kings and Queens whom the family had served over the centuries. There were even the chairs used at our own Queen's coronation, but you did have to pay for them and there was no excuse acceptable to miss the great day.
